Retirement Transition Specialists
Meet Ny Sok, Nikki Marvel & Kim Silverman
- Ny SokClient Services Manager, Registered Office AssistantNy Sok briskly enumerates the many tasks and responsibilities of a Compass Point Client Services Rep, but in the end she sums it up neatly by saying: “We maintain relationships.”And that’s what all the account maintenance, account servicing, transactions and paperwork is for—to keep clients informed, comfortable and feeling as financially secure as possible. When clients work with Ny, they encounter a bright, can-do attitude, and they quickly get the sense that she is a hard-working advocate for them.“If there is an obstacle, I try to overcome it,” she says. “There are some things you can’t change but there are a lot of things you can. I don’t take no for an answer.”As a child in Cambodia, Ny Sok always figured she would enter the medical field, and she is slightly surprised at the twists of fate that brought her to her present career in the financial field. She, and some members of her family, came to the United States in 1986, sponsored by a brother who lives in Rhode Island. “There was war in Cambodia,” she says briefly. “We all tried to survive.”While still in college, Ny took at job in a bank, and she continued in banking for five years after graduation. When a friend invited her to step over into the investment field, she left banking and found she very much liked providing customer service. The transition to Compass Point was easy and she quickly found a place working with Compass Point’s clients. Ny has obtained her Series 7 (FINRA General Securities Representative) and her Series 63 (FINRA Uniform Securities Agent State Law) licenses.Home now is Lowell, Massachusetts, where Ny claims she is still getting used to four seasons. “Weather permitting, I like to be outdoors,” she says. “Camping. Hiking. Oh, and I like to go out to eat a lot.”Favorite food? French.Does Ny have a pet peeve? Her answer is completely in character. “People who complain. If you have to do it, don’t complain.”
- Nikki MarvelNikki joined Compass Point early in 2008 to assist Ny Sok in her demanding and multi-faceted job. Even though she studied architectural engineering, Nikki is well experienced in financial services. A full-time job in a transfer agency right after college brought her through extensive training programs and gave her experience in many aspects of the financial field. Asked if she enjoys the field in which she now works, Nikki is unequivocal. “Love it!” she says. And she appreciates the atmosphere at Compass Point which offers a smaller, more personable work place.
Nikki has goals for herself in her client work as well as goals for the folks she works with. She wants clients to feel confident with their choice of Compass Point and assured that the service they are getting is the very best. When it is appropriate, Nikki takes the time to educate clients when she can; this requires skill in estimating where clients may be confused and when they have “got it.”
The one hour commute to and from work every morning and evening doesn’t bother Nikki. In her busy schedule, which includes being the mom to a young son and daughter, she likes turning on the radio and relaxing behind the wheel. Reading is her passion, and she claims she’ll read anything from books to cereal boxes, but she also loves exercise and with her daughter, enjoys running races.
Asked for a favorite quote, Nikki has one ready: “When they finally discover the center of the Universe,” she recites, quoting Bernard Bailey, “a lot of people will be disappointed it’s not them.”
- Kim SilvermanAlthough publishing was Kim Silverman’s first career, she is now comfortably settled in a professional “home” at Compass Point. Kim is one of the careful people who handle account paperwork. “I fill out forms,” she says, “open accounts and maintain the paperwork for those accounts.” She is directly responsible to Ny Sok, and she understands that accuracy is critical to her job.
Kim is focused on ensuring that each client’s wishes are followed correctly. And this desire fuels her goal for herself : to see that every detail of her part of the process is handled perfectly. This attention to detail is important to her. She states that she enjoys both her work and the atmosphere at Compass Point and adds, “You feel valued here.”
